| As an artist I am interested in the creation of a two-dimensional Image. I see myself as approaching my work much a like a painter may approach his/her work. My thoughts are about color, shape and form and the marriage of these components into a final image. I feel more like a painter who uses photography as my medium than I feel like a photographer. In fact, my goal is to create images that a viewer does not necessarily recognize as photographs. I strive to have my work transcend my medium. I want the images to move beyond the lights, the film, the chemicals, the paper and often the subject itself. I try to create something that is beyond these considerations.
I tend towards simplicity and cleanliness. To achieve this I often will work with only one or two colors at a time. I often use a very limited plane of focus, or in some cases complete diffusion, to further distance the viewer from real time and to allow them into the image without distraction. My goal is to draw the viewer into the image, guiding them with the lines and seducing them with the colors to expose the feelings that the image may evoke for them. |
