The Nude - Clothing for the Soul "During all my training at the Ecole National Superieure de Beaux Arts in Paris France the live model was present in the studio. A life transforming lesson for me involved sculpting a woman whose body was literally ravaged by childbirth, years of hard work, and age. We would have called this person “a sight for sore eyes”. Yet, the moment she stood naked on the pedestal we gasped- Venus had appeared in our midst. The following week the model was an almost picture perfect fashion magazine darling – after two days we were bored beyond belief by the banality and lack of history emanating from her prettiness. Never again would I confuse the envelope with the contents. The nude is life bared naked. Seeing and interpreting life without guise or disguise is a challenge that I encounter with each figurative work I execute. If anything, I consider nudity the clothing of the soul." – New York, Spring 2010
In her 30 year career in the arts, Poller has curated more than 125 exhibitions in the US and abroad. She has been instrumental in bringing many mid and late career artists to the US for the first time (Ipousteguy-France, Attardi-Italy, Murua-Chile, Macias-Mexico, etc.) In 1993, Poller launched the Art Alliance of Soho, and in keeping with her trend-setting style, recently relocated to Sugar Hill, Harlem.
Poller is well known for her salon events dealing with cultural-social-artistic subjects (“Yin Yang – a social laboratory”), as well as the innovative program “Frame it - It’s Yours!”, a research program examining the art acquisition process. In 2003 she was named Director of Intercambio de Arte y Cultura, a Mexican/American not-for-profit responsible for promoting interest in a major fresco done by Philip Guston and Ruben Kadish in 1934 and only recently brought to light through her efforts.
Trained at the Parisian Beaux Arts School, she has had a parallel career as a sculptor and has exhibited internationally. |
