Since launching three years ago, TheGreatNude.tv's mission has been to invigorate the figurative arts through technology and social media, connecting a new generation of artists with the lovers and the art professionals of this art form. As the site has grown, so too has the community with a regular topic of discussion being the concern of the lack of a venue (other than museums and a tiny group of galleries) for the figurative artists here in New York City and in cities across the world. To begin to change this situation, TheGreatNude.tv decided to go "brick and mortar" with a series of pop up exhibitions called TheGreatNude Invitational. This first Invitational features 25 international established and emerging artists in all styles and media who are dedicated to the nude in their work. In addition to the exhibition, there will be a panel The Nude In Contemporary Art, Donald Kuspit's essay The Nude Ascending, drawing demonstrations and evening live nude sketch parties.
