About TheGreatNude.tv
A MAGAZINE IS BORN
The concept for TheGreatNude.tv was born in 2001 when I was dining with friends and fantasizing about the multi-media magazines that could be supported on the newly evolving internet. I had been building websites since 93, and I was envisioning a utopian website run by artists who would participate in "Sketch Sessions" together online. (This was before YouTube and Facebook.) My friends laughed at my idea, but I was not deterred. It took a few years, but I designed and developed a prototype website, purchased a catchy URL and began to publish reviews and articles in 2005 as an "Art Blogger".
TheGreatNude.tv was officially launched in 2007 to only a handful of subscribers, and we began doing serious, regular editorial and video production out of my tiny studio apartment in Hell's Kitchen NYC. Our first batch of Sketch Session videos were done on a shoe-string budget with a handi-cam and volunteer production help. Over the next few years, the magazine grew the subscription base of the publication into thousands of subscribers who's demographics include artists, collectors, curators, and the fans of artworks made by serious artists who maturely deal with the nude. In addition to presenting artist interviews and exhibition reviews of some of the most exciting and provocative nudes being created today, TheGreatNude.tv presents the tutorial series Sketch Sessions – a celebration of the traditions of Life Drawing, with nude models posing for artist publisher Jeff Wiener and his guest artists.
In 2010, TheGreatNude.tv hosted TheGreatNude Invitational 2012, an international art exhibition in New York City, held at the Roger Smith Hotel over 5 days, and featuring 27 figurative artists including Odd Nerdrum, Daniel Maidman, Scott Goodwillie, Barnett Suskind, Walter Robinson, Meredith Bergmann, and many other artists, whose works all featured the bold and provocative use of the Nude. Our well-attended Panel Discussion on The Nude in Contemporary Art included renowned art critic Donald Kuspit, and artists Vincent Desiderio, Leah Poller, Sherry Camhy, and Richard T. Scott.
In 2010, TheGreatNude.tv became a "Paid Subscription-Only" magazine, offering up its unique editorial/video content to paying subscribers. These subscriptions have helped fund the magazine's production through very difficult economic times. However, TheGreatNude.tv needs the support of the artist community if it is to survive.
With your help, TheGreatNude Invitational 2012 will become the first Crowd-Funded Exhibition of Artists, and TheGreatNude.tv will have a new purpose in helping nurture the very community it is focused on. CLICK HERE TO DONATE TO OUR INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN.
Join a community of artists and art lovers, and help support our efforts to grow this boldly original figurative arts publication with an annual subscription. Monthly Subscriptions are available for $4.95, and Annual Subscriptions for $29.95.

Jeffrey Wiener
Publisher, TheGreatNude.tv
Artist/Designer/Publisher Jeffrey Wiener has been using many forms of technology throughout his life to create images and experiences for large audiences. Those "end-users" or "clients" as he likes to refer to them include popular brands and their products, businesses, politicians, and several art collectors. As an artist, and through his multi-media design consultancy Dangerous Media, commissioned works include both traditional and digital processes throughout his career. Jeffrey Wiener the artist has produced murals, paintings, drawings, and editorial art as deftly as he has produced videos, multi-media animations, and websites for his clients.
In the case of TheGreatNude.tv, Jeffrey Wiener has created a digital-age, social media platform for an ancient artform. As the publisher, his mission is to facilitate the evolution of Life Drawing as the world of paper comes to a close. In order to create a bridge to this future, TheGreatNude.tv seeks to catalog the artists - both current and historical practitioners of Life Drawing - and digitize the practice of Life Drawing through technology and social media.
The act of drawing alone is a celebration of the individual within our vast humanity, and TheGreatNude.tv is dedicated to the art of 'Life Drawing' and the masterful products of the human hand that can be produced by artists who are trained in observation and artistic expression.

Scott Goodwillie
Artist Scott B. Goodwillie came to New York City in 1992 to pursue a career as a painter. He was strongly influenced by art from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and trained in the private atelier of Michael Aviano, and at the Art Students League. Having exhibited in some of New York's premier galleries, and with a museum retrospective in 2004, Goodwillie is well-versed in the professional challenges of being a figurative artist.
In addition to private commissions and gallery exhibitions, Goodwillie runs tours of New York City's art districts and knows everyone running a gallery in this town.

Lilianne Milgrom
Our newest editorial contributor, Lilianne Milgrom, will be reporting on the nude in art and the nude AS art in a series entitled The Body and Beyond. Her exhibition reviews will focus not only on the artist's choice of the nude image, but will also be cognizant of the public's response to these works. She is particularly interested in what these reactions say about the cultural, religious and sexual mores of a society.
Lilianne is an artist and writer on the arts. She has lived and worked in a variety of different countries, and her art can be found in private and public collections worldwide. Her multi-cultural perspective has influenced her creative pursuits across the board. We look forward to reading her unique viewpoint in her travels around the globe.
